Looking for a rider

Hey everyone,

Mark Shand is looking to hook up for some riding in the next little bit.

Can anyone post to this message and try and organize with him. I am unavailable
unless you all want to come mountain biking in Fernie and Cranbrook.

Take care

Dan

Calgary Ironman 70.3

I thought Global's coverage of the press conference for the announcement of the Calgary Ironman 70.3 was the best.

You judge :)

Check it...

.. a little late for the race, but pretty stunning none-the-less. Over the winter, as my budget allows, I will replace the wheels with full black track wheels, as well as the chainring with a solid black track chainring.

Click on the pictures to see them in better detail.

Support needed for a 24 Hours rider

I don't know how feasible it is to share support people, but if anyone is doing the 24 Hours this weekend and doesn't mind having their support also helping Gavin from South Africa, a Solo Elite rider, contact me and I'll put you in touch.

Provincial TTT confirmed.

ST Cyclists are encouraged to race both of these events.

Here is the new ITT course. It will be 16km and an out and back. This will be run in the morning.

The route for the TTT will be 3 laps and be 45km and will be run in the afternoon.

I really hope we can get 2 full TTT teams into this as well as most of our club for the ITT.
Closer to the time, we will assemble our teams and find out who is doing the ITT, as it will be free for our racers.

Please leave a comment if you can volunteer, or if you have any general comments.

Volunteers we have:
Rob is handling Karelo and the start lists.
Trev is handling the technical guide.
Alex and Trev will fully prep the course in the morning before the race.
Morning of the event: Paul A., Mike H., Mike G. and Kristian
Afternoon of the event: Randy Miller, Ryan M., Rui Reis, Mike C.

Speed Theory to host the Provincial TTT Championships?

Guys, ST has been offered to host the Prov. TTT Champs in conjunction with our Sept 6th ITT. I guess RMCC had to pull out.

I really wanted our guys to have the option to race the TTT since it is a great event. I thought we should have 2 full teams registered.

Anyway, we were going to make our Sept. 6th event a 'bare bones' event with minimal volunteers, so any ST Cycling members that wanted to race were free too. However, hosting the TTT Champs, would up our required involvement a bit. The ABA said that if we confirmed a course, prepped it, and made it safe (traffic wise), they would handle the rest (timing).

So, on the course Alex and I scoped out 2 weeks ago, I think we would need 7 volunteers to make the course safe. ABA can handle the timing. The volunteer commitment would be about 3 hours since it will be a short 1 event type TT.

Therefore, I was wondering who wasn't planning on racing this event and wouldn't mind volunteering AND/OR who could provide us with a wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/friend for 3 hours. Please leave a comment soon as we should notify the ABA soon.

Here is a link to the proposed route. It is very close to town, which is nice for the volunteers. Also, it is 100% all brand new pavement ! 22km long.

Here is another proposed route that is a little longer. But all still on brand new pavement. This would be a HARD route, and would require about 4 more volunteers. 40km long.

TTT Round Deuce

If anyone is available this week to do another TTT I would definitely be available. From reading Stevo's post it sounded like it was a great time on the weekend. Maybe this week Wednesday or Thursday around 6:30pm?

I'll leave the route details & meeting place up to the guys who went out on the weekend. Post a comment if you're available.

Pictures of ITT Racers

I know i might be shooting myself in my foot here but, if anyone who raced the Jason Lapierre Memorial ITT is looking for pictures of themselves I might be able to help them out. I was snapping photos at the turn around and then again half way up the Killer Kilometer. You can check out some of the photos i took, as well as how to get your pictures at http://www.triplec.ca/photos/sttt/Site_2/Speed_Theory_TT_Photos.html

Le Tour

CSC was on the prowl again today launching none other than Kurt Asle Arvesen into the break and into the stage win. Kurt is the current Norwegian Road national champion and very famous for his toughness. In fact I think he crashed more and harder than any other dude in the '04 tour. Please note, he's not as tough as Mike Healy. No one is that tough.

Good on ya Kurt.

le Tour by Rob: The Gang

Some of your tour favs gathered together to ride up a small hill. 'The Cobra' aka Ricky Ricco aka the most electrifying jack ass at the tour seems obsessed with Cadel's posterior. Menchov is rolling with typical Russian stoicism but trust me he's happy to be there. Cadel is clearly motivated by the burning sensation coming from the cobra's lethal stare. Xtian Vande Velde, all he can think about is a Chipotle Burrito.

Le Tour by Rob: Valverde

Valverde, the master of understatement, has pointed out that Silence Lotto team is not that strong. Indeed, they are not the strongest team at le Tour Toujours but someone need remind Bala Verde of some simple math, Cadel is in yellow while Valverde is comfortably seated at 5 minutes back.

The Start Ramp that Steve Built

Those who attended the Jason Lapierre Memorial ITT likely witnessed the handiwork of our resident construction ninja; SteveG. Taking time out of his busy schedule Steve constructed the start ramp used this past weekend and it was an excellent addition to the race. Merely look to the left to see his plans for next year.

Here are a few select shots from the Powerbar KK. We will have all of them posted soon. There are quite a few, so we are trying to find a way of hosting them.

Stampede Road Race

I just looked at the results and wanted everyone to know that Lockie was missed in the Elite standings. I know he finished ahead of me by one or two riders. The ABA mentioned to me as I was leaving the event that they could not read his numbers do to there palcement. Of course it could also be that he showed up with 1 minute to spare and switched categories from Cat A to Elite and things got messed up. I can attest that he was in the race, suffered greatly, and had a good kick at the end.

Lastly a big thanks to Trev, a marked man throughout the race but put a big effort in to make it a race. Of course everyone suffered for it.

Jay Lap Results.

Here are most of the results from Sat. July 12th. We appologize for the delay in the results.

Overall, we are happy with a quality event hosted by our club and are excited to continue with the momentum and host a better event next year ! (Not inlcuding our 'bare bones' Sept 6th event).

Morning TT Results

Afternoon TT Results

Killer Kilometer Results

Overall Omnium Results

We realize some of these Omnium results are not consistent with what was reported for Cat 5 and Women results at the lodge. We used an 'overall' points structure for the KK at the lodge, but decided that the KK times should be sorted by category and then by time for Omnium. The prize money for the KK was for 'overall' however, as stated in the race guide.

Jay Lap Memorial on the Radio

I got this message from Mike G. last night.

-----------------------------------------------
Our race is going to be featured tomorrow morning on XL 103 fm as the “Cause of the Day” it will be covered at the end of each of the newscasts throughout the morning.

Stampede Road Race

I have Registerd for the race, the registration process forces you to register based on your age. I put a note that I wanted to race in the Master A category assuming we could load a bunch of us in that category. Brad from Crankmasters confirmed that we can race down in age category. They will pick these requests up from the note section on the registration form. If we don't have anyone racing in Mater A then I will help Alex out in the Elite Category (suffering for a few laps).

Volunteer Meeting on July 12th.

OK, we will have a mass volunteer meeting at 8am at Dartique Lodge on Sat. This way we will know if anyone is missing and what spots need to be compensated for if the occasion presents itself.

Kyle and Paul C. will be out 'Safe Proofing' the course at this time so you two don't need to come to this. You will need to pick up the spray paint and cones from Alex however, so call him beforehand (like 7:40am) and arrange pick up.

Dan and Lachlan will be out setting up the banners and Miiller posts at this time as well. Dan, you will need to pick up the Miiller posts earlier in the week and I will drop off the banners. At that time I will go over what needs to happen. Lachlan... touch base with Dan this week.

Steve and Rod will be setting up the start ramp and ensuring it's safety at this time. You two touch base with each other this week.

James, you may need to be out directing traffic at this time, we'll play this one by ear.

All others... 8am at Dartique Lodge.

Jason Lapierre Memorial Dual-Stage ITT Omnium

The Jason Lapierre Memorial Dual-Stage ITT Omnium

We sincerly hope to put on a unique and great event.

Rod gets big win for Speed Theory

On Sunday June 6th, I threw down in a match of pure competion with Braedon (10) and Marin (8). Indiana Jones Lego on the Xbox 360 was the vehicle though which I crushed these lesser individuals, although there were a few tense moments I managed to bring it all together for a big win!

Great White North Half Ironman

Awesome racing by Kyle and Trev at GWN, placing first and second respectively.

Thoughts: Start at 9:00 AM, meet in the north part of town and ride up to Madden and do one loop of the Stampede RR course?
