The Mur... mythical climb or mythical DJ?

Apparently there is a mythical climb accomplished 3 times in the famous Belgium cycling race 'Fleche-Wallonne' called 'The Mur'.
Whatever.

Apparently there is going to be a playlist of mythical greatness created by 'The Mur' for Monday's spin class.

Now that is important !

Apparently 'The Mur' in Belgium kicks up to 19% in sections.

Whatever.

Apparently, 'The Mur' playlist will kick us up to 100% for our intervals.

Now that is important !

Bobby Julich Stole my wheel . . .

Recently the Tour of California wrapped up down in the US. In the pic to the left you will see a CSC rider (Bobby Julich) but if you look closely you will note that the rear wheel looks . . . odd. In addition to being yellow it also is a 9 speed cog. Given CSC's tight affiliation with Zipp one has to ask . . . wtf?

Hank Rearden was a spectator during this stage of the race and fills in the details of BobbyJ's whacky new wheels. I would advise you check it out.

Have any of our crew been accosted during a race for gear? If so, please share your story.

Weekend Riding

Well, it is only Tuesday, but I am already dreaming of the weekend riding. I am going to go out Saturday at 1:30pm from the Macs on Old Banff Coach Road (right on the west edge of the city) for 100k or so. Anyone interested in joining?

Hang out without the sweat.

This ain't no ice cream event, it's an informal affair at Bottom's Up Pub on March 1st at 7:30 to around 10pm. There is a PPV UFC event that night and it'll be great hanging out with everyone watching one of the only sports that probably hurts more than cycling :) (Directions Here)

Everyone is encouraged to come, both ST members and ST spinners. If you're not super into UFC, well, maybe come for the beer and the awkward conversation :)

A more formal get together is being planned for sometime in early April and will be a BBQ at Dan's house. Once again, racers and spinners are welcome.

Misc news

We SPIN again tonight, thanks Kim for agreeing to make the playlist. I just got back from Victoria and wouldn't be able to make a new one.

We would like to continue to increase our team (and spin) interactivity and get to know each other better.

We hope to have a social very soon for the team to all meet each other and relax before a dominant race season.

We will also have another 'competition' on this blog due to the great success of the 'Thigh Naming Competition', we just have to think of one.

Also, all the trash talk on here is whole-heartedly encouraged.

Thank You

Hello,

My name is Grant and I was the recipient of the Jason Lapierre scholarship this year. I wanted to personally thank everyone who donated to this fund and let you know it is going to good use. I had the privilege of meeting Jason a couple times, but cannot say that we knew each other that well. Mostly I knew Jay's friends in the triathlon world. With everything they have said about him over the years, it makes me wish I had a chance to get to know him.

This scholarship is a wonderful legacy to Jason and I am glad it was put into place. Student athletes these days face rising costs in training and school, this scholarship is a welcome addition to any students budget. Thank you for helping me achieve my goals and I hope this scholarship and Jason's memory will continue to help others for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Grant Burwash
